چکیده

The fine structure of rotifer coronal cilia has been studied by Lansing & Lamy (1961), and Scholtyseck & Danneel (1962), who reported that they possessed the familiar structures common to all cilia. Cilia are also present in the gut of rotifers, where they stir the contents, and drive them along. This note describes an unusual structure in the tips of the intestinal cilia of the rotifer, Philodina roseola.

Fine Structure of the Cilia of Rotifers

The fine structure of the coronal cilia of the rotifer Philodina citrina has been studied in detail. Specimens were fixed with OsO(4) and embedded in butyl-methyl methacrylate, Epon 812, or Vestopal and sectioned with a Porter-Blum microtome. The details of structure of the rootlets, basal bodies, basal plates, and free cilia are described. The general structure of the rotifer ciliary apparatus...

Localization of Atpase in Rotifer Cilia

Considerable da ta have been accumulated on the fine s t ructure of cilia, sperm tails, and flagella (4, 5) bu t the contract i le mechanism in these structures has yet to be elucidated. A na tura l sequel to these observations was an a t t empt...

CCTα and CCTδ Chaperonin Subunits Are Essential and Required for Cilia Assembly and Maintenance in Tetrahymena

BACKGROUND The eukaryotic cytosolic chaperonin CCT is a hetero-oligomeric complex formed by two rings connected back-to-back, each composed of eight distinct subunits (CCTalpha to CCTzeta). CCT complex mediates the folding, of a wide range of newly synthesised proteins including tubulin (alpha, beta and gamma) and actin, as quantitatively major substrates. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We di...

Specific behavioural responses triggered by identified mechanosensory receptor cells in the apical field of the giant rotifer Asplanchna sieboldi.

The giant rotifer Asplanchna sieboldi swims by the propulsive effect of thousands of cilia arrayed in clusters around the apical field, which has several mechanosensory structures (sensilla) located at defined positions. Males and females differ in both their patterns of behaviour and their sensory receptor equipment. Unstimulated males swim straight with occasional spontaneous changes in direc...

Dysphagia after vertical sleeve gastrectomy: Evaluation of risk factors and assessment of endoscopic intervention

AIM To evaluate the risks of medical conditions, evaluate gastric sleeve narrowing, and assess hydrostatic balloon dilatation to treat dysphagia after vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG). METHODS VSG is being performed more frequently worldwide as a treatment for medically-complicated obesity, and dysphagia is common post-operatively. We hypothesize that post-operative dysphagia is related to u...
